Sweden Pauses Tesla FSD Rollout While Nordic Neighbors Forge Ahead

The journey toward fully autonomous driving in Europe is accelerating, but Swedish Tesla drivers will have to wait a bit longer to experience the future. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, known as FSD, has officially been approved in five EU countries, with more expected to follow. However, the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) has taken a conservative stance, announcing it will not grant early approval. Instead of following the lead of the Dutch vehicle authority (RDW)—which independently approved the system and paved the way for neighboring Denmark to do the same—Sweden’s regulators are choosing to wait for the official UNECE DCAS regulatory framework. According to the Swedish Transport Agency, a wider launch under this harmonized EU decision is estimated to take place during the summer or autumn of 2026 at the earliest. For the Nordic journey (ᚱ), this regulatory divergence creates a fragmented experience. Danish Tesla drivers will soon navigate their roads with advanced driver supervision, while Swedish owners must remain patient, waiting for Brussels to finalize the legal path.
